Saudi Ministry of Investment and Shareek to establish Tier III data center
The Saudi Ministry of Investment and the Shareek Program have signed two agreements with Saudi Energy and Dawiyat Integrated Telecom and Information Technology to enable the establishment of a Tier III data center to support the development of digital infrastructure and strengthen data localization and data centers in the country.
The deals aim to develop advanced digital infrastructure that accelerates the transition toward an integrated digital economy, reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for data centers, attracts quality investments and major global ICT companies, and strengthens reliance on local digital infrastructure.
They also seek to improve the efficiency of ICT services and reduce dependence on data hosting outside the Kingdom, supporting digital sovereignty and sustainable economic growth.
The establishment of a Tier III data center represents a significant step in enhancing the reliability of digital services and ensuring business continuity, supporting data-driven sectors, and improving readiness for digital economy requirements, including smart city applications and Internet of Things technologies.
In January 2026, Saudi Arabia launched an ambitious $2.7 billion (Dh9.9 billion) digital infrastructure initiative with the announcement of the Hexagon Data Centre, set to be the world’s largest government data centre and a cornerstone project of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Classified as Tier IV, the highest international standard for reliability, the Hexagon facility is designed to support the rapid expansion of digital services across the public sector and accelerate Saudi Arabia’s shift towards a data‑driven economy.
Saudi Arabia’s data center sector has expanded sixfold since the launch of Vision 2030, with investments exceeding SR16 billion ($4.26 billion), official data showed. There are now over 60 operational facilities driven by sovereign AI strategies.
