Crypto Futures have risen in popularity over the years, being considered as one of the most sought out cryptocurrency derivatives offering. In the past weeks, on news that Ethereum Spot approvals from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, might be approved, ETH Futures traded funds hit an all time high, The Ethereum futures ETFs generated $47.75 million in trading volume on May 21st 2024, 40% more than the prior $34.18 million peak set on March 5th 2024. Then the Ethereum ETFs were approved.

According to Bitget MENA, a Web3 cryptocurrency exchange, crypto traders in the region have become savvier, Bitget has witnessed a 52% increase in crypto futures trading from January 2024 until April 2024. Usually crypto trader beginners start with what is called spot trading, it is easier, and quicker. Yet to see that Bitget has witnessed this increase in crypto futures means that MENA crypto traders are gaining expertise.

This comes at the heels of Bitget’s Q1 2024 report where it highlighted more than 100% growth in crypto futures trading volume. Crypto futures trading volume was approximately US$ 1.4 trillion, representing a 146% increase, while Bitget Spot trading volume increased by 113% to over US$ 160 billion.

Bitget Global also witnessed substantial growth in the volume of Bitcoin Future trades on its platform from May 2023 compared to April 2024. In April 2024 the volume of Bitcoin Futures on Bitget crypto exchange reached $437.38 billion out of a total market of $1.9 trillion. The crypto exchange saw the highest increase in derivatives market share, with a growth of 2.4% in March 2024.

100 startups based out of the UAE and utilizing technologies such as Blockchain, AI, Web3, robotics, IoT, 3D printing, working in sectors such as renewable energy, agritech, space, advance manufacturing, biotech, creative industries, sustainability, healthtech and cybersecurity will be able to participate in the competitionad be awarded Future 100 Label with various perks and benefits.

The chosen startups will have fast Access to Investors, Regulators And Business Community, support – Funding, Legal, Commercial, and Capacity Building

Applicants for the Future 100 will be evaluated on the basis of their creative capacity, market potential, and environmental, social and corporate governance impact.

Startups andSMEs  that have offices or operations in the UAE that are eligible to apply can submit an online application on the Future 100 website.

KSA based Nine66, a Savvy Games Group company and South Korean Blockchain game developer Wemade jointly participate in the first edition of University Gamedev League which finals will be held in Riyadh KSA.

The University Gamedev League is a competition for university student game developers from across the world. Over 50 teams from 30 universities and 10 countries have registered to participate in the five-month contest. The initiative provides a unique opportunity for aspiring game developers to showcase their talents, collaborate with others, network, and receive mentorships from globally recognized gaming experts.

The top two teams will fly to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, to compete in the final held during Gamers8, an esports tournament and gaming festival which runs for eight weeks and previously gathered over 1.5 million visitors in 2022.

This partnership comes after the two entities signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Wemade and Nine66 and is in line with both parties’ ambitions for the gaming industry in Saudi Arabia. The middle east gaming market is also expected to grow by 56% to $2.79 billion by 2026, with Saudi Arabia’s 21 million gamers constituting an untapped demographic, according to analysts at Niko Partners

In an effort to become the next global hub for the gaming industry, Savvy Games Group is investing $38 billion into the gaming sector. Wemade is intensifying its effort to develop the booming gaming ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and increase its local presence by participating in this initiative. It is also the first Korean company to sponsor the competition. Through its role, Wemade will facilitate knowledge transfer and skills building for the new generation of game developers combining blockchain technology within the Saudi Arabian gaming ecosystem.

UAE Cyber Security Council, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), and UAE Department of government support have launched the 1st annual global Capture the Flag (CTF) cybersecurity competition. Crypto is one of the themes included in the competition. 

Established in November 2020, the UAE Cyber Security Council is tasked with developing and overseeing a cyber security strategy for the UAE, and creating a safe and strong cyber infrastructure, while Abu Dhabi Digital Authority was established to enable, support and deliver a digital government that is proactive, personalized, collaborative and secure.

Both have come together with the support of UAE Department of government support to organize the first CTF cybersecurity competition.

The CTF competition will be held at Gitex 2022 which will take place from 10-14 October 2022 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The aim of the knowledge based challenge is to create a safer digital world. Challenges fall under several themes including, web exploitation, forensics, reversing, OSINT, IoT hardware, crypto, network, mobile, and Steganography.

Teams of 3 or 5 are considered eligible for the competition. They will need to register their teams. The qualification round which will take place online on 10-Sep-2022, and only five (5) teams from the online qualifier round will be selected for the finals.

The Final round will be held physically and in person at Gitex 2022. Qualified teams must be physically present with their laptops at Gitex Dubai from Oct 10 till Oct 14, 2022 for the final round.  Abu Dhabi Digital Authority will cover all the accommodation and travel expenses and the entry badges for the final CTF round in GITEX.

The winners will be announced at the end of the 5th day, of Gitex 2022, the first 3 teams will receive cash prizes. 1st place winner will receive 35,000 AED, 2nd place will 25,000 AED, and 3rd place will receive 15,000 AED.
