UAE Crypto mining entity, Phoenix Group, which recently launched the first crypto blockchain IPO in the MENA region, has purchased $380 million of crypto mining hardware from Whatsminer.

The contract exceeding $380 million marks the largest order for Whatsminer in the last two years, underlining Phoenix Group’s dominant position in the Middle East’s tech and blockchain sector.

The agreement entails an immediate delivery of mining equipment valued at $136 million, with an additional option worth $246 million.

Phoenix Group, already partnered with and the exclusive distributor of WhatsMiner, is taking a significant leap forward by integrating hydro cooling miners in collaboration with WhatsMiner. This initiative, already underway, marks a pivotal step towards establishing world-class High-Performance Computing (HPC) data centers. The established partnership with WhatsMiner, now further enhanced by this deal, demonstrates Phoenix Group commitment to sustainable mining technologies, leading the industry towards a greener future.

As Phoenix Technology announced its entrance into a strategic exclusive regional partnership with Blockchain crypto mining product entity, they also noted that Phoenix Technology which embarked on establishing a $2 billion crypto-mining farm in the UAE, the biggest crypto mining project in the region will be completed in the next six months, or Q2 of 2023.  The press release notes, “The project will be finalized within six months, giving the region a taste of technological advancement and development.”

In February 2022 Phoenix had announced it was part of the group of entities developing the UAE crypto mining farm and had also stated in a interview with Irena Heaver that the project would be finalized in the next six months. Almost a year later, and their latest press release states the UAE crypto mining farm will be launched in the next six months. 

The partnership with MicroBT, a technology company based on blockchain, will allow Phoenix Technology to sell WhatsMiner brand in the GCC countries (UAE, Bahrain, KSA, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait), Egypt and Turkey market.

According to the latest market forecast report by Technavio, the Cryptocurrency Mining Hardware Market share is set to increase by $12 billion from 2022 to 2027. The momentum of growth in the market is going to accelerate at a CAGR of 11.35%. The market will also experience a 10.71% Y-O-Y growth rate during this period.

The press release notes that given that the UAE is a crypto-friendly country, it is important to note that the mining business has dramatically grown in the territory. In fact, although Bitcoin mining started with solo miners quietly building up currency reserves on their home computers, those days are long gone.

Amidst what some might consider as bearish markets especially for the crypto mining industry given high energy prices and decreased value in crypto markets, UAE’s crypto mining hardware retailer, Phoenix Technology is investing $300 million in crypto mining sites across the globe.

As per recent news, Phoenix Technology is developing a large scale site in the United States which will be launched in Q2 of 2023. The site will utilize the latest mining technologies including immersive cooling.

Carl Agren, CEO of Phoenix Technology, stated, “Phoenix Technology is aiming to switch from a regional player in the mining space to a global one. In other words, developing, maintaining, and operating sites all around the world. We have been currently focusing on the North American markets, mainly the US and Canada. However, we are planning on setting foot in other regions to try to identify opportunities in untapped mining areas. We are devoting $300 million to be invested in different sites that are development opportunities, under development, or currently operational.”

The company has also signed a strategic partnership with MicroBT, blockchain and AI entity, making it the exclusive sales partner of WhatsMiner in the MENA region.

Phoenix Technology has claimed that it will develop partnerships with other companies that are also pushing the boundaries of mining, such as gas flaring, to bring more technologically advanced solutions to the local market and globally.

Recently Munaf Ali, founder and CEO of UAE-based Phoenix Group, stated that he believes MENA is fast moving toward crypto and blockchain adoption. In the interview he explains, “The Middle East is fast helping the global diversification of jurisdictions which are friendly to operate in. This goes for countries where crypto firms can set up, whether they are crypto exchanges or mining operations.”

In November 2021, Phoenix Technology announced that it signed one of the world’s largest purchases on record for crypto mining rigs, worth US $650 million. In an interview Munaf Ali stated that Phoenix was part of a project that would be developing a large scale crypto mining farm in the UAE.
